Almost anyone that has purchased a new home within the last five years or anyone that is involved in the home construction industry is aware of the popularity of gutter art. Gutter art is term which very literally refers to the art work which is done to gutter sin homes and commercial buildings. Most new buildings that are being constructed today are being made with some sort of gutter art in their design. Companies that provide gutter machines, such as, have gotten a burst of new business thanks to the rise in popularity of gutter art, and construction companies in general are also among the benefactors of the new mode in gutter manufacturing. For many folks there is a lot of doubt about exactly where this trend came from, and where it is headed. Here we explore the origins of gutter art, as well as take a brief look at the direction in which it may be headed.

The origins of gutter art can be traced back to a group of forward thinking young designers that came to prominence in California during the late 90’s. At its root, gutter art was a largely homegrown art form of home design. Students of design at the University of California began to experiment with the ways in which you could combine functional gutters with beautifully designed ones. At the start gutter art was all done by hand, so it took a long time for the mainstream design crowd to begin to notice the small movement. In the year 2014, a decoration magazine in New York picked up a story on the new California trend of Gutter art, and within a few months, home design studios were bussing with the new topic.

It was not until companies which had primarily focused on areas such as standing seam roof panel machines decided to start to create machines that were capable of creating gutter art that the movement really took off. Once it became possible for gutter art to be manufactured in mass quantities, the trend swept across the nation. All of a sudden, gutter machine makers were spending a lot of money on the development of machines which were able to produce gutter art in their gutter production process. Gutter art is now as easy to produce as entering a design into a gutter machine’s computer system, and letting the complex device take over the technical aspects of producing gutter art. Today, one in five new homes are made with some sort of gutter art in their design, and that number is only expected to grow as better technology make it easier for complex gutter art to be executed.

Now people are starting to look to the future of gutter art, and one of the topics which are most widely discussed is how gutter art can be made into a more custom art form. The chances are very high that in the near future, people will be able to use simple software programs which can produce custom gutter art that fits the taste of any homeowner.
